Q.

What is ACA?

A.

ACA stands for Amoskeag Company "A" Quality. The ACA pattern is the blue and white stripe ticking that was originally designed and produced by the Amoskeag Textiles Mills of Manchester, New Hampshire. The original design was originally introduced in the Mid-1800s. The pattern has been in continuous use since the Civil War and today continues to be one of the most popular institutional designs.

Q.

What is Ticking?

A.

Ticking is the term used in the mattress industry for the outside cover of the mattress whether it be cloth or vinyl.

Q.

What is BioPruf?

A.

BioPruf is a reinforced vinyl laminate, with ACA design.

Q.

What do you mean by Weights?

A.

Reinforced vinyl laminates are measured by weight per square yard. The most popular weights are 6, 8, 10.5 and 11 ounces. The heavier the weight the more durable the product will be, which usually relates to a longer product life.

Q.

What are the standard sizes of bedding?

A.

The following chart should help you recognize what size you want.

Q.

What is Bourdon's policy on custom sizes?

A.

Bourdon's has developed a company policy that if you are ordering a special size cover, with dimensions that you have not ordered before, we will make one cover only and ship it to you to try. After making sure it fits and you are satisfied with it, notify Bourdon's to proceed with the balance of your order. Please note that this will greatly increase the lead time you will require to get the product. Our goal with this policy is to make sure you are a satisfied customer when all is said and done. Bourdon's will not accept product returns for custom size covers.

Q.

How should I clean my mattress?

A.

This is probably the most frequently asked question, and the answer depends on the specific product. We will strive to address some of the more common situations: Our recommendation for cleaning vinyls is to use a liquid anti-bacterial soap, like liquid Dial Soap. The soap will disinfect and clean; spraying with Lysol will also help in disinfecting the mattress. Try to avoid using cleaners with chlorine, like chlorine bleach. Vinyls are a polychloride derivative (the chlorine products are their cousins, so to speak) they react against each other. The chlorine will dry out the vinyl, making it brittle, therefore, reducing the life of the finished product. The new spun-polyester material may be washed in cold water, with a regular laundry detergent. Line dry or tumble dry on a delicate setting.

Woven Polyester - DO NOT WASH!!! This material is not pre-shrunk, shrinkage will be at least 35%. Dry clean only. PS: make sure the dry cleaners do not wash them; you want them dry cleaned!

Q.

How do I put on a Replacement Cover?

A.

We have found the easiest way to put on a replacement cover for a foam mattress is to elevate your work surface. Use the dining hall tables (2) with cement blocks under the legs, this will elevate the work surface and save your lower back. Lay the cover out, put a short end of the foam in the cover, making sure that the foam is all the way into the corners. Then fold the foam in the shape of the letter "Z" with one hand on the outside corner of the foam guide it into the cover, taking care to tuck it behind the zipper. Shake the cover on the table to even out the foam; close the zipper. One of our customers said that they put a spot of Super Glue behind the zipper glide when closed; this prevents the cover from being removed, or hiding any camp contraband.

Q.

How do I put on an Innerspring Replacement Cover?

A.

When putting on our innerspring replacement cover we recommend that you use two people. Slide the cover on to one end of the mattress, then stand the mattress up. With a person on each side you can lift up the mattress cover and the mattress will slide into the cover. Zip it up - the zipper is in the border area - and you are done.

Q.

What if I receive damaged or short freight?

A.

Always check your freight when receiving, count the number of pieces and look at the general condition. If damage or shortage is evident, mark the receiving slip while the driver is there. Call Bourdon's to report the damage or shortage. We will require a copy of the signed delivery slip showing the shipment was received damaged or short. Note the trucker's copy must also show that the shipment was received damaged or short or we won't be able to submit a freight claim. If the above criteria is met, Bourdon's will handle the paperwork for you and see that your damaged product is replaced. Our customer service is only a call away.

Q.

What is the difference between Sleep-Safe and Chemi Foam mattresses?

A.

The Sleep-Safe foam mattress has a green cover; the Chemi-Foam mattress has the Bio-Pruf ticking which is ACA striped. Both vinyls are the same; one is white with a blue stripe printed on it, the other is green. Both mattresses use exactly the same foam core.

Q.

Do I have to buy guard rails?

A.

Bourdon's is mandated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission to supply guard rails with 30" bunk beds. If the bed can only be used as a bunk bed, then guard rails come as part of the bed. If a 30" bed is demountable you can purchase a single surface which does not require a guard rail.
Note: We strongly recommend that guard rails be used in bunk configurations. Today, with vinyl or nylon-cover mattresses and nylon sleeping bags it's like holding two wet ice cubes together. Guard rails go a long way towards keeping an individual in bed, thus preventing expensive injuries.

Q.

What is the difference between the zippered vinyl covers?

A.

The Flamesafe, Bio-Pruf, and Sleep-Safe covers are produced using reinforced vinyl laminate that is 10½ to 11 ounces per square yard. The only difference is the color. The choice is yours!

Q.

What is your return policy?

A.

If you must return an item or shipment, you must obtain authorization from our customer service personnel. All returned shipments must arrive prepaid. Bourdon's will not accept any collect freight shipments. Just as you demand quality from us, we require any returned items to be in resalable condition. If not, the credit we give will reflect the resale value of the item.

Q.

What if I don't need what I ordered?

A.

Bourdon's gives a grace period of thirty days from date of shipment for you to make arrangements to return an item you don't feel you need. It is unfair to ask us to accept returns in September for something you ordered in May. In the future, the 30-Day rule will be adhered to.

Q.

What does it cost to ship?

A.

Bourdon's customer service will be happy to provide you with a freight estimate. We need to know what item(s) and the quantity of those items along with the ship-to address of town, state and zip code in order to provide you with a freight estimate.

Q.

Can I have it shipped to my home?

A.

If your shipment can be shipped via UPS and you have notified us that it is a residential delivery, Bourdon's will ship it to your residence. If your order has to move by common carrier, then Bourdon's will not ship to your residence! You will have to provide us with a business address that will be able to accept your shipment.

We hope the above hints are helpful and make your job a little easier. If you have a question or any suggestion, please contact our customer service department. We are here to serve you - for without you we would not be here!
